Thomas Alt 8-Track Flashback

Thomas Alt's humorous memoir, 8-Track Flashback, takes readers on a ride through the musical soundtrack of the 60s. This collection of ten vignettes-one for each year of the 60s-describes a memorable experience in the author's life, and takes him on a journey from his boyhood home in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin to his university days at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Readers of 8-Track Flashback will identify with these coming-of-age stories that encapsulate life growing up in a small Midwestern town during the seminal 60s. Each vignette relates to the most popular song of the day, and the music is used as a tool to evoke the readers' memories of his or her childhood. Through music, memories, and humor, readers will relate to Tom's journey from boy to man, and the funny things that happen along the way.

"I want the reader to have enjoyed the experience of reading the stories, and to feel that they, too, have memories they can enjoy-even laugh at. And, in the end, I want them to realize that surviving the stupidity of youth is a success story."

Alt is a self-described "61-year-old boomer who loves the music of his youth-60s music." Alt currently lives on the North Shore of Chicago with his wife of 33 years. He has a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and spent his professional life in the futures industry as a broker and trader, both in Chicago and New York. He and his wife have two grown children, a daughter, 23, and a son, 21.

When summarizing his book, Alt says, "This is a book that says, 'we all have stories, here are mine.'"  To read Alt's humorous and witty recollections of his youth, and the turbulent politics and ground-breaking music that provided the setting, look for 8-Track Flashback, which will be released under Windy City Publishers' Mag Mile Books imprint and available in the Summer of 2011.
